UK develops solar-powered drone with 90-day battery life that can reach anywhere in the world

Astigan, headquartered in Bridgewater, UK, is developing asolar energyA drone, it has a battery life of 90 days and takes high-quality photos. It hovers 20,400 meters above the ground and sends snapshot images to organizations and businesses. The first test of the Astigan-type drone is expected by the end of this year. The Astigan drone weighs 150 kilograms and has a wingspan of 40 meters. It can carry a range of interchangeable Earth observation instruments such as high-precision cameras, atmospheric monitoring systems and multispectral sensors. In addition to military applications, it is of great significance for urban planning, land management, environmental change, and even natural disaster relief.

Brian Jones, managing director of Astigan, led the project and was involved in the development of the first solar-powered plane to circumnavigate the world. He said the extraordinary aircraft has achieved its intended goals and all work is a milestone. By the end of 2019, our goal is to complete endurance flight tests for up to 90 days of nonstop flight. Astigan's main stakeholder, the Ordnance Survey, wants to push the mapping industry to new heights.
